The regional perspectives stream of the conference will focus on regional issues of drowning and the development of prevention systems with an emphasis on low and middle income countries. This stream will seek to highlight collaborations across the International Life Saving Federation and interventions underway in areas not currently participating in this network.
A look at drowning on a regional basis points to a high need for action across Asia, more drowning related research in Africa and the Pacific, and a consolidation of efforts that are currently being facilitated across Central and South America.
Providing a mix of workshops and papers this stream will address:
- ILS Asia Drowning Prevention Strategy
- ILS Africa Development Strategy
- Organisational development themes
- Impacts of travel and tourism on drowning prevention
ILS regional representatives are encouraged to participate in this stream, as well as representatives from countries and regions that require development assistance. Researchers, health and development professionals working in or with a specific interest in low and middle income countries are also encouraged to participate in this area of the conference.
