Children, particularly those aged 1 to 4 years, carry the overwhelming burden of drowning in high, middle and low income countries. In high income countries (HIC’s) hazards such as home swimming pools, bathtubs and agricultural reservoirs have been the focus of interventions for many years. Research from low and middle income countries (LMIC’s) such as Bangladesh, China and Vietnam reinforce the challenges of eliminating drowning though community development.
The Child Drowning Intervention stream will focus on the following areas:
- Targeted drowning prevention interventions
- Advances in child drowning research
- Impact of public policy on child drowning
- Drowning in youth populations
- Youth based lifesaving programming
The Child Drowning Intervention stream will facilitate the coming together of research, policy and practice for the purpose of identifying, confirming and pondering strategies to prevent child drowning.
The news and knowledge database will highlight child drowning issues, projects and research in the lead up to the conference. If you would like your work highlighted in this way please contact us.
