The Australian Government strongly supports the World Conference on Drowning 2011 to be held in Da Nang, Vietnam, which will raise awareness on the issue of drowning as well as the latest prevention practices.
We are proud to support Royal Life Saving Society - Australia, as an iconic and well-regarded organisation, taking global leadership on the issue of drowning and its prevention in the developing world.
Drowning is a significant obstacle for most Asia-Pacific countries in reducing child mortality. In Asia alone an estimated 350,000 children die each year—a rate some 20 times higher than in developed countries.
This conference will focus our neighbours’ attention on the preventable nature of drowning as well as further increasing support for improved water safety in the developing world.
I am proud to be a Conference Ambassador and that through the Australian Government’s support that Royal Life Saving Society - Australia is able to share its expertise and specialised skills with the rest of the world. |
